Creativity and AI Workshop for Middle School

Children today are growing up in the age of Artificial Intelligence and interact with several AI enabled tools such as smartphones, Alexa, YouTube, Google, etc. that are constantly evolving. However, most AI Education initiatives are geared towards adults. Learning about AI and building smart machines can help children better understand technology around us as well as be an active part of designing tools that shape our lives. The goal of this curriculum is to teach upper elementary and middle school children about creative machine learning techniques and how they can partner with AI to create art. Children participate in several hands-on activities, both plugged (using digital devices and hardware), and unplugged. This course is meant to be hands-on and encourages the explorative creation of art with and without AI tools. A strong focus will be given to GANs, an AI that can generate art and music, among many other forms of media.
