Raechel Walker, is a PhD student in the Media Lab's Personal Robots Group at MIT. She coined the term liberatory computing to ensure that minoritized students can leverage their computing skills to challenge systemic oppression. To put this framework into practice, she founded the Data Activism Program, which equips minoritized students with data science skills to support social justice organizations. Her work combines Black critical theory, critical participatory action research, and data science to develop transformative computing practices
