Recently, a report prepared for RAISE co-principal investigator Hal Abelson by the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node documented the success of a Hong Kong and Macau teacher AI professional development workshop, using MIT App Inventor.
The workshop was designed to help secondary school teachers integrate artificial intelligence into their classrooms. Delivered across three cohorts in late 2025, the program engaged 52 educators and student trainers from 26 schools in Hong Kong and Macau, with participants showing statistically significant gains in AI knowledge and strong growth in confidence. Using a hands-on, four-step pedagogical framework adapted from MIT-affiliated curricula with CoolThink, teachers built AI-enabled apps, explored ethical considerations, and developed lesson plans across a wide range of subjects, from mathematics and science to language and history. Nearly 87 percent of participants reported plans to implement AI in their teaching within a year, underscoring the program’s potential to support responsible, cross-curricular AI education at scale.
