Aikaterini (Katerina) Bagiati
Principal Research Scientist
Aikaterini (Katerina) Bagiati is a Principal Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab and serves as the research lead within MIT RAISE. She holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as an interdisciplinary Master’s degree in Advanced Computer and Communications, from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. In January 2008, she enrolled in the pioneering School of Engineering Education at Purdue University, where she earned her Ph.D. in September 2011.
Her current work focuses on STEM learning and the development of educational programs, with an emphasis on engineering, artificial intelligence, and technology across K–12, higher education, and workforce training contexts. She also investigates the effectiveness of innovative learning technologies and pedagogical approaches. Over her 15 years at MIT, Dr. Bagiati has participated in numerous national and international collaborations, including partnerships with schools and ministries of education, the U.S. Air Force, and NIDA/NIH. She has served as a STEM education advisor to institutions and initiatives such as the Singapore University of Technology and Design, the MIT New Engineering Education Transformation initiative, and New Uzbekistan University, among others.
In recent years, her work has focused on developing and identifying resources to support teacher and faculty training in contemporary pedagogies and instructional design models for engineering and technology education. She is also a key member of the MIT PATH program (Pathways to AI Training and Hiring), where she leads the “Skills for the Era of AI” taxonomy development group.
Her research interests include early engineering education; engineering and technology curriculum development and teacher training; online education; AI education; and international educational development.
